In 1867, numerous patents for rods, reels, and other fishing tackle related items were issued to Julius Vom Hofe.Reels were an optional fishing item in 18th century usually reserved for the well-to-do. The first Vom Hofe fishing reels manufactured were issued a model number instead of a model name. Fly fishing reels came in different sizes and models. Collectors desire Julius Vom Hofe famous fly fishing reels for catching trout and salmon. Fly-fishing was and still is an effective method of catching these fish.
